Theresa refined her personal style, love of color and sense of design as she earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree from the Maryland Institute of Art. She received her training in floral design at Longwood Gardens, Kennett Square, PA. She considers herself a life-long student and continues to hone her skills and knowledge through studies with many leading European and Asian floral artists.
She is currently studying Ikebana, the Japanese art of floral arranging. She draws her inspiration from the natural world, and through Ikebana, has found new ways to approach her work. She says, “The thread of working with flowers and plant material runs through my life. Nothing excites me more than to manipulate plant material in ways that are unique and unusual. Taking what nature provides me to work with and making it truly “mine” is a creative challenge.”
Theresa teaches at Longwood Gardens and is a multiple award winner at the prestigious Philadelphia Flower Show. She is a member of the Creative Floral Arrangers of the Americas, Ikebana International, Philadelphia Chapter 71, Society of American Florists, as well as the American Institute of Floral Design.
